Distributed communication and information networks

PROJECTS:
Research projects supported by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences:
Methods and tools for information resources integration in distributed systems and networks , 2007 2009, Contract with the Institute of Information Technologies. The purpose of the project is to investigate the specifics in the development of the integration technologies, connected with the uniqueness of the existing information systems and the necessity for their interaction when new ideas, objectives and tasks are presented by the users of information resources. They are pretty new technologies, so not all of the basic standards have been definitely discussed, formulated and accepted, which might cause certain risks in the development of integration applications. The problems will be analyzed that are connected with the information resources integration; the integration platforms available; the characteristics of the data integration; the processes; the applications and the interfaces, as well as the applicability of integration in service-oriented architecture. The general aim is to develop new methods for information resources integration based on using of different kinds of knowledge syntactical, semantic and pragmatic.
Linear models of control systems and optimization of functions over the efficient set of multiobjective optimization problems, 2007 2009, Contract with the Institute of Information Technologies The project involves activities in two main directions. First, research is carried out on theoretical problems from linear algebra and theory of matrices which have immediate applications in modeling and analysis of linear control systems. The second direction includes studies and development of methods and algorithms for multiobjective optimization problems.
Modeling and optimization of interconnected information processes, 2006-2008, Contract with the Institute of Information Technologies Software models for non-conflict schedule in commutation node are synthesized. An approach of models for different size of connection matrix is applied. The software models are compared relating to the performance rate and necessary memory at same size of the connection matrix. The fastest is software model of classical algorithm with matrix-masks (SMCMA), but it requires a lot of memory. The slowest one is software model of algorithm joined matrix-masks (SMJMA). With apparatus of Generalized Nets (GN) a model is specified that calculate non-conflict schedule using a priori information. Comparison analysis of this model with other GN-models is made. Benefits are showed in high loading on input channels.
Matrix methods in control system modeling and two-step procedures in multiobjective optimization problems analysis. Contract No: 010062, 2004 - 2006. The project is aimed at examining of specific properties of square matrices, in particular eigenvalue relations, and utilizing the results in linear control systems analysis. The other main objective consists of development of a two-step procedure for minimizing a linear function over the efficient set of multicriteria optimization problems.

International projects:
Theoretical methods for distributed information networks and systems design, 2006-2009, Contract with Russian Academy of Sciences The general aim of the joint project is the development of theoretical and practical aspects for the design and realization of distributed networks and systems. Within the project it is planned to develop new methods and algorithms for synthesis of the architecture, the estimation of productivity, the selection and optimizing of parameters of network protocols, the investigation on the quality of transferred information and other problems of the design and realization of the information networks and systems. Special attention will be put on the developing of methods for analytical and simulation modeling of the modern broadband wireless networks for information transmission, which are main lines of the development of telecommunication industry. The focus is on the research work will be in the field of information resources integration and the design of integration platforms. The developed methods will be verified and applied on construction of distributed information networks and systems by using of wireless broadband communication and web architectures.
2004-2007 FP6/2002/IST/2. Intelligent Framework for Generating Open (Adaptable) Development Platforms for Web-Service Enabled Applications Using Semantic Web Technologies, Distributed Support Units and Multi-Agent Systems. (Project leader for IIT-BAS) The specific targeted research project INFRAWEBS started in 2004 and successfully finished in 2007. The primary project objective was to develop an ICT framework consisting of several specific software tools (INFRAWEBS Unit), which enables software and service providers to generate and establish open and extensible development platforms for Semantic Web Service based applications. The results of the participants from IIT-BAS is mainly in the developing of appropriate software tools which are parts of the integrated platform designed for a semantic and ontology-based handling of Semantic Web Services oriented on conceptional WSMO specifications. The developed within the project framework gives possibility to include and integrate new software tools. The open platform consists of coupled and linked INFRAWEBS units, whereby each unit provides tools and system components to analyze, design and maintain Web Services realized as Semantic-Web-Services within their whole life cycle.
